Cape Cod man convicted of raping woman who rejected his advances

Tamanine Hamilton was found guilty of three counts of rape and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.

A 26-year-old man from Cape Cod was found guilty last week of sexually assaulting his coworker who denied his advances, prosecutors announced.

Tamanine Hamilton, of Truro, was found guilty of three counts of rape and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 after a jury trial in Barnstable Superior Court, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office said.

Hamilton was accused of sexually assaulting the woman while she was walking home in Provincetown early in the morning of Aug. 18, 2023, according to DA Robert Galibois.

Hamilton was sentenced to 12 to 14 years in state prison and 14 years probation concurrent with his sentence. He also must register as a sex offender, the DA said.

“District Attorney Galibois would like to recognize and commend the incredible strength and bravery it takes for a victim to come forward and share their experience in a courtroom,” the DA’s statement read. “Testifying about deeply personal and painful experiences is never easy but doing so helps bring accountability and gives voice to those who have been harmed.”

The woman went to the local police to report the incident later that morning, including that she had “repeatedly rejected his advances and felt uncomfortable around” Hamilton, prosecutors said. The two met through her job, where his advances had led her to quit.

The six-day trial began July 14, and the jury came to their verdict after two hours of deliberation, the DA said. He was also found not guilty of one count of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.

Hamilton’s lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment.
