Popular vegan restaurant Grasshopper reopens in Super 88 food court
The owner of the Asian vegan restaurant told Boston.com in the spring that it was his intention to reopen quickly.
Grasshopper, the vegan favorite that shuttered its doors in Allston after 27 years in business, is back in business just a few blocks from its original location.
Owners of the Asian eatery, known for its menu full of vegetarian- and vegan-friendly dishes, announced their return to Allston on Facebook on Wednesday. It appears diners can still expect some of the same beloved dishes, like the No Name, but they’ll go to the Super 88 to get their order.
According to the Facebook post, Grasshopper opens Thursday, Aug. 29 and will be open daily for lunch and dinner.
“We want to first say thank you so much for your love and support when we were closing down our previous location,” the post read. “Even seeing the notes left on the back of your receipts at the end of the night made our nights.”
Owner Hoai Nguyen told Boston.com back in April that it was always his intention to reopen.
The Super 88 is made up of multiple food stalls and has had food vendors like Pho Viet’s (now located across the street in its own space).

“I hope people will remember Grasshopper,” Nguyen said. “And if Grasshopper reopens, I hope a lot of vegans and vegetarians will come back.”
Grasshopper closed at the end of May, when its lease ended at Beacon and Cambridge Streets in Allston.
Nguyen claimed that the lease was discontinued and the landlord had another potential tenant willing to pay a “higher rent.”
But a representative for One North Beacon LLC said the lease had naturally expired, and they had no plans to renew it citing ongoing issues of property maintenance and unpaid rent. A raise in rent was never discussed, the representative said.
