Smoke from Canadian wildfires continued to blanket New England Tuesday morning, turning summer skies hazy.

The wildfires have sent smoke across the Upper Midwestern and Northeastern United States, including in New England.

Air quality alerts remained in effect Tuesday morning across Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont, according to the National Weather Service.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection issued an air quality alert for fine particulates until midnight Tuesday. The department said air is forecast to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including those with lung or heart disease, older adults, and children.
