You won’t find many bargains on Union Park in the South End, and the impeccable renovation of 39 Union Park is a great example of why.

At $10.2 million, the property hit a new record for the highest on-market MLS sale in the neighborhood.

Originally a multi-family rowhouse built in the late 19th century, the property, which blends Italianate and Victorian design elements, was transformed in a renovation down to the studs completed in 2017. There was a concerted effort to maintain the original details, such as plaster moldings, lamb’s tongue doors and window trim, and original pocket doors with wheel-cut glass while integrating new design and materials that paid homage to the original design.

One of the most unique features is the custom-designed staircase that spans all six floors. At the top, you’ll find a large skylight that allows light to filter in down through the staircase.

The home is also equipped with three kitchens. In the main kitchen, you’ll find custom-crafted millwork and appliances from Sub-Zero, Thermador, and Gaggenau.

The primary suite spans an entire floor, measuring over 1,100 square feet. A custom handpainted wallpaper paneled pocket door leads into the space, where blush pink walls and a cozy fireplace create a welcoming ambiance in an elegant space. The primary bathroom features a wet room with dual shower stations, a Devon&Devon soaking tub, and high-honed Nero Marquina countertops.

“Anyone who saw the home in person said it had one of the most beautiful primary bathrooms they’ve ever seen,” said Daisy Penney of the Hanneman Gonzales | Penney Gould team at Compass, who represented the home with Nick Hanneman, Chris Gonzales, and John Gould.

On the garden level, you’ll find the ideal entertaining space, complete with a butler’s/serving kitchen and a prep/entertaining kitchen. Nanawall doors open to a private rear garden with a multi-tiered terrace with professional landscaping and lighting, and a snow-melt system.

With stunning views of the private park and fountains, it’s easy to understand why people are eager to live in the neighborhood. But the biggest luxury of all? The sale of the home came with one garage parking space included in the price.

As for who purchased the palatial pad, the agents on the property are staying mum.

“The buyers very much value their privacy,” says Hanneman.
