One of two coming-of-age classics directed by Amy Heckerling new on Netflix this month (the other being “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”), “Clueless” is both distinctly of its era and reliably evergreen. Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz may be a prototypical ’90s kid, but her character — based on Jane Austen’s “Emma” — is relatable for any generation. Throw in a killer supporting cast — Brittany Murphy, Dan Hedaya, Donald Faison, and a baby-faced Paul Rudd — and you’ve got the recipe for a classic that is still being watched 30 years after its debut in July 1995.
How to watch: “Clueless” is streaming on Netflix.
The sixth edition of this long-running franchise, back after a 14-year break, uses a grander scale for its tried-and-true formula. Instead of a small group of friends cheating death, it’s the descendants of a woman whose premonition saved hundreds of lives in the ’60s. She has a detailed book explaining how to continue to cheat Death, but fate will nevertheless find new and gruesomely creative ways to collect the souls it’s owed.
How to watch: “Final Destination: Bloodlines” is streaming on HBO Max.
I’m happy to report that the 2025 legacyquel to “The Naked Gun” is the funniest movie of the year, and is definitely worth seeing in theaters. Even so, Liam Neeson can’t match the inimitable Leslie Nielsen as Det. Frank Drebin, and nothing beats this 1988 spoof from Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker — except for maybe ZAZ’s own “Airplane!”.
How to watch: “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!” is streaming on Paramount+.
Staying on the theme of comedies that deliver an astounding rate of jokes per minute, how about settling in for an episode or 20 of Tina Fey’s showbiz satire? There ain’t no party like a Liz Lemon party, and thanks to Prime Video, a Liz Lemon party is now available on three major streaming platforms.
How to watch: “30 Rock” is streaming on Hulu, Peacock, and Prime Video.
Tom Brady is following in the footsteps of “Welcome to Wrexham” producers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (now legally Rob Mac) with his own docuseries about Birmingham City FC, the lower-level English football club he became a minority owner of in 2023. Brady may lack the comic timing of Mac and Reynolds, but he isn’t afraid to call out legend Wayne Rooney, which should make for interesting viewing.
How to watch: “Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues” is streaming on Prime Video.
