Michael Masucci, Chelsea’s deputy fire chief, was placed on paid administrative leave after he was arrested in Nashville on Saturday, according to a statement from the City of Chelsea.
“Earlier this week, the City of Chelsea was informed that Deputy Fire Chief Mike Masucci was arrested in Nashville, TN, on misdemeanor and felony charges,” a city spokesperson said in a statement shared with Boston.com
Masucci being placed on administrative leave was “a neutral procedural action that allows for a full and fair review while preserving the due process rights afforded to all public employees,” the spokesperson said.
According to a police report obtained by WHDH, emergency personnel responded to a medical call at 418 Broadway when Masucci ran out of the bar, Layla’s Honky Tonk, at that address.
Masucci allegedly pushed a police officer off the patient and assumed a fight stance. He then attempted to elbow another officer as they tried to arrest him, according to WHDH. Police were able to take Masucci into custody.
According to the Nashville Police arrest log, Masucci was charged with two felony charges: attempted offensive contact/assault of a law enforcement officer and offensive contact/assault of a law enforcement officer. Masucci was also charged with two misdemeanors: disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to a Nashville criminal record search.
“The Fire Department expects all members to uphold its Code of Conduct, and any potential violations are taken seriously and reviewed thoroughly,” said Chelsea’s Communications & Community Engagement Manager Lillian Martin.
A 24-year-old relative of Masucci’s was also arrested that night and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to Nashville criminal records.
The investigation remains open and both Masuccis are set to reappear in court on Sept. 5 for a potential settlement, according to Nashville criminal records.
